Scotland Loves Animation
Scotland Loves Animation is here to promote animation as art. We run film festivals, workshops, exhibitions, graduate showcases, and all sorts of other events in Scotland to appeal to all ages and tastes. We’re a charity so Scotland Loves Animation events are entirely non-profit: every penny from ticket sales goes into bringing bigger, better events to you.
In 2010, we ran our first film festival: Scotland Loves Anime, a celebration of Japanese animation (or “anime”) in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dundee. It was a huge success thanks to an enthusiastic audience of over 3,500 attendees. We showed films including the immensely influential Akira, Summer Wars, Redline, and Evangelion 2.0. We invited guests from around the world: Oscar Wright of Scott Pilgrim fame, Japanese anime producer Shigeru Kitayama, and anime industry veteran Jonathan Clements, amongst others. Most of all we had a lot of fun making it happen.
Although anime has been our focus to date, our scope is broader than that. Supporting talented young animators, scriptwriters, and digital artists is one of our top priorities. That’s why Scotland Loves Animation aims to get industry professionals, creative students, and graduates under the same roof to showcase their skills and share ideas. We’ll be doing just that in Edinburgh on Friday the 14th of October.
What else are we up to? We’re gearing up for the second Scotland Loves Anime festival, kicking off in Glasgow on the 7th of October and Edinburgh on the 14th. The film line-up will be available for you to browse in more detail in the next couple of days. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
